I am currently on an HOA board that has some pretty vociferous members. They question everything we do and are disruptive at times during board meetings, sometimes even trying to tape meetings. This book has helped make Robert's Rules more useable by simplifying the language and giving practical applications. I keep it on the shelf next to my copy of Robert's Rules and pull this book down every time I pull Robert's Rules off the shelf. I had to laugh when I read a section of the book in a bordered gray box entitled "How formal does it have to be?" The article described "Puggy Knuckleknocker" who is somewhat of a bully liking to show off his/her knowledge of parliamentary procedure (remembered from 5th grade). This can be intimidating to inexperienced and experienced board members and is one of the reasons the book is helpful to me.
Great book, get's pretty in depth, after reading, I passed a 300 question parliamentary procedure test first try with over a 95% Worth the read if interested in this stuff. Read it before you read the real rules, you will know what questions to ask. What I expected and so much more.
The book arrived on time and was well packaged. I must say this book makes life so much easier as I was recently elected the Recording Secretary for my Society. This books answers so many questions in easy to understand language.
I bought this book for the last Robert's Rules of Order version. It helped me tremendously run meetings, create agendas, review our bylaws, etc. It's very easy to read and provides tips and explanations that are very helpful. I highly recommend this book be used alongside your RRONR.
This is a great book - it recommends common sense approaches to parliamentary squabbles in meetings. It also guides you to setting up your officers and their duties. A must have for small groups....it makes order out of chaos.
This is an excellent guide for a newbie Committee Chairman. It certainly cuts through most of the unnecessary verbal clutter of meetings and how to stick to the point and gets things done correctly.
If you are getting into parliamentary procedure, you may find the Robert's Rules bible somewhat intimidating, unless you have a law degree. This book simplifies the complex world of parliamentary procedure into understandable and usable technique. The Robert's Rules bible is for quoting the rules, and this book is for learning the rules.
If you purchase Robert's Rules, then you also need the "for Dummies" edition. The paper back version of Roberts Rules I purchased with more than 700 pages is certainly made easier by the "Dummies" version. Also, I was grateful for the opportunity provided to contact the author with a question to clarify an issue. While the "for Dummies" version doesn't cover every single issue, it certainly does what we need for our homeowners association.
