As we all suffer from sitting, loss of full range of motion and movement is lost.This book teaches you about movement again, not just for sports (which is primarily why I got the book) but for life.Great information and teaching.

i am a user since 2007, when i first met the newly accredited DPT, Kelly Starrett. His ideas and ability to communicate to people at that time were yet to discovered. BUT even at that time, his understanding of a lecture given on the shoulder and how it works gave everyone in the room the ability to understand how it works, and what happens when it doesn’t. This is quite important for a book about water sports, as being a waterman you require the shoulder to be the catalyst of importance w/ regards to joints. Kelly has spent time in the water as well, the dude does one of the most obscure and incredibly demanding things anyone could and has put that to the test via a transition to long distance paddle sports like the Molokai. This is a must if you are in the water or just like to understand how the body moves.

As a life long waterman, I have had my fair share of injuries, broken back, torn labrum, chronic low pack pain to name a few. Kelly's tools and techniques outlined in this book have allowed me to enjoy surfing and paddling again without pain. As the owner of Sea Trek, a Sea Kayak and Stand Up Paddling center in Sausalito, Ca, my livelihood depends on my ability to stay healthy and injury free. I use the routines outlined in this book daily to maintain proper mobility and strength so that I can play and work hard. The interviews from world class water sport athletes are a great addition to the book. If you enjoy water sports then his book is for you and worth every penny.

I’ve watched Dr. Kelly develop into one of the premier movement gurus on the planet. His understanding of the human movement systems and how to harness them is groundbreaking and continues to push the science. This book aims to break that knowledge down into usable information for any waterman. It also comes from his practical experience paddling for the US Canoe and Kayak Team in whitewater slalom across the rivers of North America plus experience paddling ocean events such ad the Molokai Hoe. I started kayaking 40 years ago when I was a young teenager, and whitewater sports were my profession for 25 years. His knowledge and guidance have kept me injury free, paddling at peak performance, and extended my paddling life by years. Whether you're a weekend warrior or a pro, this book is for you, and not having it will only mean you're on-water experience is a small percentage of what it could be.
